Miles Platt Shares his Love for Music with Residents of The Watermark

Music holds a very special place in Miles’ heart. He loves listening to music of all kinds and is a proud owner of a record player and an extensive collection of vinyl records. He enjoys playing the guitar, surfing the web and making YouTube videos in his free time. When deciding what to do his Mitzvah project on, he had no doubt it would involve music. Fortunately the residents of The Watermark at Beverly Hills were able to benefit from such a special young man. Miles takes part in the Shabbat service we hold at the community on Fridays by playing his guitar during our prayers. And on Sundays, he hosts an hour of Music Therapy for the residents. He takes song requests of all sorts, but says songs of the ’40s and ’50s are the most requested. He especially appreciates how music can trigger a memory and bring joy to the residents. The power of music is so incredible, especially for those with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. Music has the power to change your mood, your body language and your feelings.
